Summary:

The Engineering/Design Coordinator position is a multi-faceted role within the design/engineering group requiring knowledge and insight into vessel systems, interior design, and Bill of Material (BOM) management/creation. They will be involved in multiple areas of engineering and design of vessel creation, vessel build and vessel documentation management.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Coordinate interior design items in Folio as well as create and maintain interior design manuals.
  • Create and process change requests (CRs) incorporating changes in vessels.
  • Research and define place holder replacement parts in vessels.
  • Research system parts and pieces for possible use in vessels.
  • Assist in maintaining existing vessel BOM and creation of new model BOM.
  • Supplement BOM coordinator as requested.
  • Creation/updating of owner’s manuals in Adobe InDesign.
  • Facilitate client services group for client interior requirements and design/engineering for manufacturing requirements.
  • Work effectively as part of a team providing high quality Customer Service to both internal and external clients.
  • Must be able to work as a group and include others inputs and directions.
  • This position may have to travel to other facilities on a limited basis.
Requirements:
  • At least 2-4 years of experience working in a manufacturing/production environment, working in a bill of materials system and coordinating multiple department’s tasks to ensure completion of project.
  • Requires visual and auditory acuity necessary and appropriate to perform all job duties and requirements as listed, as well as capability of hearing a forklift back-up alarm, moving vehicle horns, or other safety alarms and warning signals.
Additional Job Functions:
  • All duties require frequent sitting, walking, standing, squatting, reaching above shoulder level, and the repetitive and fine manipulation of hands for simple grasping, pushing and pulling, as well as occasional sitting and stair climbing.
  • Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment including and not limited to gloves, safety glasses, hard hat and or a respirator may need to be worn when and if handling hazardous products or working in hazardous environments.
  • Must maintain an excellent attendance record following all company policies and procedures in the Employee Handbook and safety rules.
  • Will be expected to work over 40 hours and flexible hours as needed to meet production schedules and departmental needs.
Other Preferred Skills / Abilities:
  • Experience/ability to learn folio (open source library services platform)
  • Experience/ability to learn Adobe InDesign (layout and page design software for print and digital media.
  • Experience/ability to learn Westport’s Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system.
  • Experience/ability to learn AutoCad and Solidworks.
  • Must be able to multi-task and handle multiple projects at one time.

Safety Requirements:

  • Must be able to work in an environment that may have chemical odors and dusts (wood, fiberglass, exhaust, etc.).
Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms, to stand, walk and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit, push or pull and lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

The work environment is a production floor setting and is usually noisy and dusty. It does not always maintain a consistent temperature but is dry. Noise levels are moderate to high with some chemical odors present. When on the production floor, PPE is required where noted.
