This position works in our Upholstery Department supporting various items that need sewn; canvas, cotton blends, leather, silks and other various blends of yardage per production schedule and supervisory instructions. Prepare and apply fabric/leather to various types of furniture per production schedule and supervisory instructions.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Utilize commercial sewing machine, serger, scissors, seam rippers, pins, and air staple gun.
  • Apply welt cord and zippers to yardage.
  • Apply fabric and leather to panels, chairs, headboards, bunk rails and other furniture.
  • Develop new, and match up existing patterns as it applies to the project at hand.
  • Visual acuity capable of reading down to an 1/8” on a ruler/tape measurer.
  • One year of professional sewing experience or at least 5 years personal with high level projects.
  • Basic math, reading and communication skills.
  • Ability to follow verbal, written and pictorial instructions.
  • Function as a part of an effective team.
  • Ability to demonstrate attention to detail.
Additional Job Functions:
  • May be asked to work in other department to assist with staying on schedule (training will be provided)
Other Preferred Skills / Abilities:
  • Upholstery experience.

Safety Requirements:

  • Must be able to work in an environment with dust.
  • Must be able to work in an environment with chemical odors.
  • Move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Repetitive use of hands for simple grasping, pushing, pulling and fine manipulation.
  • Frequent walking, sitting, standing, bending, sitting, kneeling, squatting, reaching above shoulder level, ladder and stair climbing and occasional crawling, twisting, and lying.
  • Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment including and not limited to gloves, chemical resistant Tyvek clothing, safety glasses, hard hat, respirator, and or hearing protection may need to be worn when and if handling hazardous products or working in hazardous environments.
Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms, to stand, walk and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit, push or pull and lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

The work environment is a production floor setting and is usually noisy and dusty. It does not always maintain a consistent temperature but is dry. Noise levels are moderate to high with some chemical odors present. When on the production floor, PPE is required where noted.
