YACHT INTRODUCTION

The Yacht Somerset (formerly Spindle) was built in 1971 by the Trumpy Yard in Annapolis, MD as contract number 442. Built to the exacting standards of Trumpy, construction is now double Sipo planking (originally African mahogany) on steam bent white oak frames. The boat was owned by the same family that christened her until 2010. The new owners have completed a restoration which includes a completely new bottom, keel, frames and floors, rebuilt engines, new generators and systems and after much consideration, an almost entirely new interior. Though the boat had been maintained well by her owners, she had never been updated. The decision was made to change the general arrangement and stylistically update the boat. The aft cabin now features a queen sized center-line berth and mahogany paneling, the guest stateroom offers a full queen with access through a butternut paneled hallway offset by custom built fabric inserts. All of the overheads on the boat are custom built edge and center bead panels. The two aft heads are spacious and tiled both with separate stall showers. Additional convenience and comfort has been added to the boat by way of a built in washer and dryer, type 1 marine sanitation plant and anti-roll fin stabilizers. The crew is accommodated in over under bunks forward of the completely new galley. The butternut paneling has been retained in the main salon, with teak being featured in the wheel house, aft deck and galley. New furnishings have been designed custom made for the boat. Somerset will be in based in Maine in summers and Florida and the Bahamas in the winter months.

YACHT CREW

Captain: Eric HollmanCaptain: Eric Hollman

Captain Eric Hollman was born in the outskirts of Detroit, Michigan, graduating from the University of Michigan with a degree in psychology. After working in the mental health field as a counselor, he somehow found himself on a schooner sailing from the Dominican Republic to Galveston, Texas. After that trip, he wondered if he might do something like that for a living instead; turns out, he could! After years of experience on bluewater deliveries, daysailing, and term charters in South Florida, the Caribbean, and New England, he’s now the captain of Somerset, ready to bring a first-class experience to his guests.

First mate/Chef: StephanieFirst mate/Chef: Stephanie

Mate and Chef Stephanie McKay was raised in Boston, Massachusetts. Growing up in New England and spending summers in Maine, Stephanie has always loved the sea. She has been in the service industry for over 10 years, working as a bartender, caterer, yoga instructor, and everything in between. Her love of cooking has been constant since childhood, and she has spent the last 2 years working as a charter chef aboard a sailboat in both the Caribbean and Newport, Rhode Island. She specializes in healthy plant-based cuisine, but can cater to any tastes. Her hobbies include yoga, diving, surfing, traveling and the occasional dance party. She looks forward to cooking for you and your family and friends!
