Essential Job Functions:
- Collaborate with product development team, engineers, CNC, and production to design, develop, and engineer best construction and installation methods for marine joinery.
- Collaborate with product development team, director of engineering, and scheduler to ensure production schedule needs are being met.
- Work with Executive Management, Service Department and Product Development Team to answer potential and existing customers inquiries related to marine joinery.
- Perform design reviews, evaluate constructability, help resolve construction and installation issues, and manage information generated through the design process.
- Assist with creation of shop drawings, installation drawings and construction standards.
- Attend change meetings and participate in change processes. Evaluate the impact of change requests and interpret into drawings.
- Enter hour estimates for build and changes.
- Enter changes into system and assign tasks to team.
- Oversee change management process through drawing completion.
- Perform at-sea trials joinery review.
- Work with compliance officer to ensure regulatory compliance and industry standards are being met.
- Work with the Production Joinery Supervisor and plant manager to provide expert guidance on joinery construction and installation to production and design staff.
- Review industry standards and technology developments to suggest improvements to Westport joinery.
- Assist production crews as needed to resolve issues during vessel construction.
- Assist warranty department as needed to resolve issues on delivered vessels.
- Travel as needed to other company facilities to inspect progress on projects in construction and provide expert guidance for marine joinery.
- Work with Executive Management, Service Department and Product Development Team to answer potential and existing customers inquiries related to marine joinery.
- Document and maintain processes and procedures for build.
- Maintain project management scheduling using Smart Sheet or other management/scheduling system.
Utilize existing PLM/BOM system to manage change requests and BOM content.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university or equivalent experience in construction and CAD.
- 5+ years’ in cabinet/furniture construction.
- Knowledge of ASME Y14.100.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Experience with MS Office and Bluebeam.
Additional Job Functions:
- Expected to work overtime and flexible hours as needed to meet production schedules and departmental needs.
- Attend various meetings in person, by phone, and using web services.
- Must maintain an excellent attendance record following all company policies and procedures in the Employee Handbook and safety rules.
Other Preferred Skills / Abilities:
- Experience using CAD software (SolidWorks and AutoCAD Preferred).
- High level of attention to detail.
- Able to work in both office and production atmospheres.
- Reliable, attentive and able to work in a team environment.
Safety Requirements:

- Hazardous materials are used in the production process. Employees must follow all safety guidelines and know evacuation procedures, the location of first aid stations and SDS locations in areas they work or visit on Company property.
Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use a keyboard and mouse, reach with hands and arms, stand, sit for extended periods, walk and talk and hear. The employee may be required to push, pull or lift up to 50 pounds with or without accommodation. The work environment is primarily in an office setting; however, visits to the production floor where it can be noisy and dusty, are expected. When on the production floor, PPE is required where noted. Noise levels are moderate to high with some chemical odors present.
Total Compensation:
Wage range: $36.50 – 41.50 per hour – Depending on experience and demonstration of skills
