Summary:
Operates polishing equipment to obtain desired polish and luster on cabinet parts and products to Westport LLC quality standards. Select polishing pads and abrasives best suited for type of finish. Apply and manipulate work to pad, exercising proper pressure and duration to polish, glaze, and buff using care to maintain contour, relationship and dimensions
Essential Job Functions:
- Use hand and power tools polish parts to correct defects and prepare surfaces for further finishing.
- Load and adjust work pieces onto equipment or work tables, using hand tools when needed.
- Select abrasives and/or pastes, according to materials, sizes, and shapes of work pieces.
- Decide the amount or finish to be removed, finish specified, and steps in finishing process to standard.
- Verify quality of finished work pieces by inspecting them and comparing them to Westport LLC polishing standard samples.
- Mark defects for possible rework.
- Change polishing pads when needed.
- Production positions with Westport Yachts are classified as safety sensitive. To be considered for employment, candidates must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
- Candidates for this job may be asked to demonstrate specialty skills outlined under job functions.
- Requires basic levels of mathematical, reading, writing and communication skills necessary to successfully accomplish the job description, skills and ability requirements as outlined above.
- Requires visual acuity necessary and appropriate to perform all job duties and requirements as listed.
- Requires auditory acuity capable of hearing a forklift back-up alarm, moving vehicle horns, or other safety alarms and warning signals.
- Must be able to operate wet sanding D.A. polishing equipment.
- Must be able to spot defects on work; close visual inspection required.
- Good problem solving, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Expected to work overtime and flexible hours as needed to meet production schedules and departmental needs.
- Prefer 1 to 3 years’ experience doing like duties in similar environment.
- Prior experience in boat building industry.
- Prior autobody finish or similar experience helpful.
Safety Requirements:
- Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment including and not limited to gloves, safety glasses, hard hat and or a respirator may need to be worn.
- Maintain and participate in keeping personal work area, shop and tools clean and in proper working order to ensure safe working environment.
- Hazardous materials may be used in the production process. Employees must follow all safety guidelines and know evacuation procedures, the location of first aid stations and SDS locations in areas they work or visit on Company property.
The employee is occasionally required to sit, push or pull and lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

The work environment is a production floor setting and is usually noisy and can be dusty. Noise levels are moderate to high with some chemical odors present.
Total Compensation:Wage range: $19.00– $22.50 per hour
