Summary:
Coordinate and direct the Lamination department to ensure the completion of assigned tasks on schedule, within budget and at the required level of quality in the production of Westport luxury yachts.
Essential Job Functions:
- Accountable for crew safety, efficiency, skill levels, training, knowledge of construction standards, and compliance with all company policies.
- In conjunction with the Plant Manager – responsible for crew and lead persons’ performance, wages, advancement, and discipline.
- Schedules department for best efficiency, including coordination with other departments and shifts, and cooperates with other supervisors for special scheduling needs.
- Coordinates with administrative and production support departments, such as Human Resources or Purchasing, and Material Handling so that production operates at best efficiency.
- Ability to read, understand, and communicate to crew members all work related information: including but not limited to schedules, procedures, instructions, construction drawings and standards, and production goals.
- High level of expertise in the Lamination trade.
- Ability to explain and teach the safe and proper operation of all Lamination tools – hand, power and special tools, fixed and mobile plant equipment, miscellaneous pumps, machinery and components used.
- Must effectively trouble shoot and solve construction problems within trade.
- Uses a “hands-on” supervisory approach, working directly with each lead and other crew members to achieve all departmental and company goals.
- Lead by example.
- Must be able to follow through and complete tasks in a timely manner for all aspects of the job.
- Must show ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Maintain and participate in keeping personal work area, shop and tools clean and safe.
- Basic levels of mathematical, reading, writing and communication skills necessary to successfully accomplish the job description, skills and ability requirements as outlined above.
- Must maintain an excellent attendance record following all company policies and procedures in the Employee Handbook and safety rules.
- Will be expected to work overtime and flexible hours as needed to meet production schedules and departmental needs.
- Additional opportunities or requirements within the Composites field may be added as justified by applicant’s skill, ability, experience, interest and or departmental need.
- Visual acuity necessary and appropriate to perform all job duties and requirements as listed.
- Auditory acuity capable of hearing a forklift back-up alarm, moving vehicle horns, or other safety alarms and warning signals.
- Impregnater operation
- Infusion processes
- The proper care and use of Magnum Venus equipment
- Availability to work with swing shift personnel as necessary
- Proper ABS paperwork logging
- Prior leadership experience.
- Prior experience in boat-building.
- Chemicals and ratios of those used in lamination
Safety Requirements:
This is a safety sensitive position.
- Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment including but not limited to – gloves, safety glasses, hard hat and or a respirator must be worn when handling hazardous products or working in hazardous environments.
- Drug free – all positions with the company are subject to testing for drugs and alcohol, including cannabis (marijuana) products. Any offer of employment is contingent upon negative UA drug screen results.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms, to stand, walk and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit, push or pull and lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

The work environment is a production floor setting and is usually noisy and dusty. It does not always maintain a consistent temperature but is dry. Noise levels are moderate to high with some chemical odors present.
Total Compensation:Wage range: $25.00– $31.00 per hour -Most newly hired employees would start at the bottom end of the range.
