FULL SPECIFICATIONS

Overview

PINTAIL, Contract #407, is one of only two large 84’ hulls built by Trumpy and the only one constructed in the cruiser configuration. The yacht was commissioned by Col. David Flagstaff and was originally named PINTAIL. She was later named ARAS, then ACHASTES, and then WISHING STAR in 1984 by Mr. Michael Eagan (Alamo Rent-a-Car); in 2024, she was returned to her original name.

Between 1997 and 1999, she underwent an exhaustive $2.2 million rebuild that restored her to virtually new condition in every aspect. Throughout her history, she has benefited from long-term ownership by dedicated custodians who consistently upgraded and improved the vessel.

Two years ago, she completed an extensive yard period under the care of the experts at Bristol Marine Samples Shipyard facility in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, and she has continued to receive annual service and maintenance since then. Those inspecting her will find her in excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition, with updated systems and ready for immediate cruising.

Key Features

  • Contract #407, one of only two 84’ hulls built by Trumpy
  • All structural and mechanical systems are up to date and fully serviced
  • Three-stateroom layout with two additional crew cabins
  • Cockpit and swim platform provide easy water access
  • Ideally suited for entertaining, cocktail cruising, or extended voyages
  • One of the finest Gentleman’s Yachts afloat!

Accommodations

PINTAIL features a well-designed arrangement plan. Crew quarters are located forward and include two separate sleeping cabins, a head with a separate stall shower, and a U-shaped settee. A full-beam galley with laundry facilities is located aft, with access to the engine room and companionway to the dining saloon.
A white wicker table and chairs serve as the centerpiece of the forward salon, surrounded by forward- and side-facing windows and generous aft storage. The wheelhouse is located further aft, followed by the salon, which opens to the aft deck through French doors.
A companionway aft in the salon leads to two twin-berth guest cabins forward with a shared head, and a beautifully appointed queen-berth owner’s cabin aft with an en-suite head. A spacious aft cockpit provides an ideal area for fishing or gathering for watersports.

Hull and Deck Equipment

PINTAIL was originally built with cedar inner planking and mahogany outer planking. She was completely re-planked in 1998 and is now double-planked in mahogany throughout. She has 2 ¼” oak frames on 12” centers, with 2 ½” oak floor timbers. The stem, keel, and horn are also oak. She features four main longitudinals that serve as engine beds and support the engine's weight. The house tops and side decks are fiberglassed.
In 2022, the starboard side deck was rebuilt, including removal of the cutwater and replacement of the underlying structure. The brass plate was re-bedded, six frames and twenty planks were replaced, and the shaft logs were rebuilt.  In 2023, an additional eight planks were replaced around the port strut, two floors were replaced in the aft cabin, and the entire aft cockpit deck and structure were rebuilt.
