Project Thalassa - A motoryacht inspired by a sailboat design

Exterior designer Malcolm McKeon is renowned for designing large sailing yachts. For Feadship he applied that specialist knowledge to create the low profile of 80-metre Thalassa – a state-of-the-art motor yacht with the understated grace and ready access to the sea of a sailing yacht.

The sleek hull has a noticeably lower freeboard than most motor yachts with a finely flared bow and a subtle tumblehome aft. Crisply contemporary edges are balanced with more feminine forms; the sculpted lines of the superstructure, for example, are softened by the teak decking that wraps over the leading and trailing edges. The ability to walk around all the decks to make access fore and aft easier is another feature as brought across from sailing yachts.
