Moored in Ft. Lauderdale, the boat is easily showable during the upcoming Ft. Lauderdale International Boat Show.
Belize is an incredibly rare boat in today’s world of yacht design. Few builders build classic designs while still utilizing modern construction and design techniques to maximize interior space and thus offering more creature comforts and technology than usually found on a traditional down east style boat. Further, the Belize style is not a traditional down east style. Belize carries retro exterior lines that are a unique blend of modern European influence with traditional American boat building. Hand built in the world-famous Kaohsiung Shipyard, each Belize receives meticulous attention to detail and is built by superb craftsman.
From beefy stainless-steel rails and wood grain steering wheels to the unique blend of timeless walnut cabinets and modern lacquer, everything about Belize is quality and takes time to build. As such, a boutique builder like Belize does not change models often or make significant changes to existing models. But what does change is technological advancements in boating. This is a unique buying situation where the significant technological advancements that are offered in a current model year Belize 54 are found aboard a 2018, but the boat is a fraction of the cost of a new build. These upgrades include: Volvo Assisted Docking, Dynamic Positioning System, variable speed bow thruster, and Electrosea. Below is a list of further upgrades, options, and significant features:
The foredeck is easily accessed through wide walkways on either side with elevated bulwarks decorated beautifully with a teak cap rail and beefy stainless steel bow rails. The beam is carried all the way forward in the boat which makes the forward foredeck very wide and an very easy spot to navigate even while carrying lines, fenders, covers, etc. Even at night the walkway is easily navigated with the help of floor level courtesy lighting. The foredeck superstructure has a very wide vinyl sunpad with folding backrests. The pad is encompassed by an impressive stainless guard rail for added security when lounging. True in form to the classic and timeless lines of Belize, three vintage style round stainless-steel deck hatches can be opened with screens and shades for added comfort below deck.
The windlass is above deck, but the chain, chute, and anchor itself are all hidden below deck hatches which help keep the deck free from hazards. A large deck hatch on the port side has plenty of storage below for anchoring related items or lines. It also houses a salt and fresh water quick connect hose hookup, and windlass remote. The starboard side deck hatch gives wide access to the chain locker which is nice and deep and a great spot for storing any large items (fenders, covers, etc.).
The bridge is accessed through stairs built into the starboard side cockpit console. Regarded as one of the sturdiest, most comfortable, and most adjustable chairs in yachting, a Stidd captains seat is centerline. A woodgrain steering wheel and accent dash panel keep in tune with the ageless style of Belize. Fully redundant, the flybridge helm features all the same equipment as the lower helm: IPS joystick, Volvo binnacles, chain counter, bow thruster control, Garmin chartplotter, CZone display, Garmin VHF, Garmin Grid controller, and upgraded Fusion Apollo stereo.
Expansive L shaped seating on the bridge is upholstered in a classic pattern of navy trim and a patterned grey insert. Storage is beneath all bridge seating for easy access to life jackets, flares, or a life raft. A folding satin teak table is on the aft bridge which can telescope to any desired height. The bridge bimini has built in overhead lighting which can be white or full spectrum color changing. The starboard side of the bridge houses a wet bar complete with teak prepping station, sink, refrigerator, stainless covered trash chute, and storage. All of which combine to make the bridge a great place to entertain and leaving not much reason for guests to leave and go down below.
Well-hidden and a surprise to those not familiar with the boat, the transom houses a low-profile tender garage which conceals a Brig Falcon 300 with 20hp four stroke Honda outboard. Belize is one of the few manufacturers that can house an outboard powered tender in a garage, eliminating the need to use a jet tender which are less reliable and require more maintenance. For launching and recoring the tender, the center part of the swim platform lowers, and an electric winch deploys and retrieves the tender. When the tender is stored, a lid opens to reveal a transom wet bar with sink, lighting built into the lid, a Kenyon electric grill, and pull-out transom hot and cold shower.
One of the most impressive areas of the boat is the expansive cockpit, covered full beam and full length by a fixed acrylic awning with stainless steel frame and supports. This makes the cockpit much more usable than most even in inclement weather. Each aft corner of the cockpit has large deck hatches which make accessing the pod area of the engine room considerably easier than some boats that require crawling over the engines to get to that area. Next to each of the pod access hatches, the beefy stainless steel hawse guide and stern cleats have a dedicated line locker for excess line running off the cleats.
Side cockpit walkways are accessed on either side of a wide transom bench. Forward of the bench is an electric, high-low satin finished teak table. The owners have added Serena Lily teak directors chairs with custom covers to match the existing cockpit seating covers.
The forward port side of the cockpit has a countertop bar which sits just aft of the opening salon window, tying together the interior galley with the outdoor countertop and fold out bar stools. There is also a cockpit joystick with engine station, all cleverly concealed with a folding lid that is built in beautifully into the superstructure lines.
Starboard side bridge steps are half ladderback and half molded. The molded steps are built into a starboard side cockpit countertop with storage and drawer refrigerator. The ladderback section bolts to the top of the countertop. This clever design makes the area under the steps usable for storage and food prep.
The centerline salon door slides to starboard to reveal a timeless salon with still modern touches and amenities. When the door is slid open and the pop-up window is up, the salon and cockpit blend together nicely, all easily closed up for climate control and separation.
Portside is the galley. Beautiful satin finished cabinetry is partially sprayed in lacquer producing a great blend of modern and classic. A completely outfitted galley has a double basin stainless steel sink, Miele cooktop, Miele convection oven, drawer freezer and refrigerators, dishwasher, and plenty of storage. The galley houses one of the boats Czone displays. CZone is a digital switching system that controls all AC and DC powered circuits. Incredibly easy to use, the system has preset and programmable modes for Dock Unattended, Cruising, and Entertaining. With one push of the button, all desired circuits for each mode turn on and off. All electronics, all lighting, all air conditioning, and others can be turned on and off with one touch as well. To true and experienced boaters, this system is one of the best pieces of equipment onboard. Czone also has manual overrides for all circuits for added safety and redundancy.
A large L shaped sofa sits starboard in the salon, with a folding table atop a console with cabinetry finish and storage drawers. For formal dining, leaflets fold out and chairs can be added to allow for dining for five or six people. A cleverly hidden high-low TV comes out of an Ultraleather covered console just aft of the sofa.
Like the bridge, the lower helm is also centerline and beautifully appointed with all desired electronic equipment for navigation as well as teak and ultraleather trim. Equipment includes dual Garmin chatplotters with full Volvo Penta Glass Cockpit integration, IPS joystick, chain counter, Garmin GRID control, Volvo tachometers, Volvo binnacles, Garmin VHF and adjustable wood grain steering wheel with large stainless steel spokes. Starboard of the helm is a double wide companion seat which gives the ability for two guests to sit facing forward while underway – rare to find in a boat of this size. Sliding helm windows on either side and an overhead hatch allow for plenty of air flow when desired. Beautiful American quarter walnut windshield supports serve as a great reminder of the Belize style and commitment to craftsmanship.
Below deck is accessed by extra wide steps on the port side of the salon. The steps, and all the hardwood flooring on the boat, are textured to avoid any slipping and eliminating the need for throw rugs to accomplish that job.
The full-beam master stateroom sits aft with a forward-facing, island-style queen bed. Decorated in a combination of American quarter walnut, ultra leather, lacquered cabinets, and a louvered fabric headboard, the stateroom is beautifully appointed. Wide side windows and opening portholes allow for natural light and ventilation. Plenty of in-wall and drawer storage make it easy to provision and store items for long periods aboard. A port side lounge is a nice area for owners to sit and relax in the privacy of their own stateroom. The wall mounted, upgraded Smart TV round out the stateroom to provide all the creature comforts of home.
A very large master head sits to starboard, with one of the largest showers in class and usually only found on a considerably larger boat. Plenty of corian countertop space, a vessel style porcelain sink, lots of medicine cabinet storage all combine to create a very large and comfortable head, more in keeping with a bathroom at home than a head on a fifty-four foot boat. The hardwood flooring has faux holly inserts to once again give the classic feel of a Downeast style boat, but with a modern twist that is much more durable than a traditional teak and holly floor.
The VIP stateroom sits forward with almost an entirely walk around queen size bed. Dual hanging lockers and below bed drawers offer plenty of storage. Ultraleather wrapped countertops flank each side of the bed serving as extended nightstands. To starboard, a vanity can double as a small desk. The overhead deck hatch gives plenty of natural light and ventilation when needed and another upgraded Smart TV is on the aft starboard bulkhead.
The day head has corridor access as well as ensuite access from the VIP stateroom. Just like the master, the floorplan and size of the head is very impressive. The shower is once again massive and eliminates any cramped or uncomfortable feeling often found on showers in boats of this size. Another large countertop, faux teak and holly floor, and porcelain, basin-style sink round out a head that is as equally accommodating as the master head.
Starboard in the main corridor is the guest stateroom with top and bottom bunks. Not to be treated as the neglected stateroom, Belize equipped the bunk stateroom with an overhead hatch, opening porthole, walnut closet, and lacquered storage drawers.
The engine room is incredibly well laid out, labeled, and serviceable for all equipment. Twin D8 Volvo Penta inboards power IPS 15 pods (IPS 800 package) which produce 600 horsepower each. The Cummins Onan generator is very easily accessed between the fuel tanks on the forward bulkhead.
